Sven is a lifelong mariner who began his professional career nearly 30 years ago. His first job on a tugboat was as cook on the tug CF Campbell in Western Alaska. Sven worked his way up through the ranks – working as a Deckhand and then Mate before landing a job as Captain transporting timber products from Alaska to Washington. Sven’s time towing timber was short, as he soon joined Seattle-based Olympic Tug & Barge Company (OTB) and started moving petroleum barges throughout the Pacific Northwest. After nearly 15 years at sea, Sven joined the OTB shoreside management team.
Most recently, Sven served as the Vice President of Pacific Northwest & Offshore at the Olympic Tug & Barge parent company, Harley Marine Services. Prior to that he worked as both Port Captain and General Manager of OTB. As GM, Sven oversaw all aspects of the company’s day to day operations. As Vice President, he continued to supervise OTB while also overseeing other subsidiaries and the offshore business.
Sven maintains his USCG license and holds a Master of Towing, a 200 Master and a 1600 Mate Near Coastal. Sven also has an auxiliary sail endorsement on his license – back from when he spent time sailing with his father in Alaska as a child. Sven holds a degree in Psychology from Pacific Lutheran University. He has held positions on the SEAPRO Board of Directors and the Cook Inlet Harbor Safety Committee.
